The first precursor corresponds to Early Cambrian dolomitized oolites and microbialites, which are very similar to rocks in Lusatia (Doberlug-Torgau). The second precursor corresponds to open-sea calcitic wackestones/packstones and dolomitized packstones/grainstones and yields fossil remnants, which are widely comparable with N Gondwanan, Late Silurian and Early Devonian carbonate sediments of the Bohemian type. The Middle-Late Devonian sedimentary continuation is most likely missing, and this was preceded by increased geochemical variation in non-carbonate components. The atmospheric deposits formed the major part of these components, whereas local riverine material was significantly trapped in carbonates only during the beginning and end phases of the Paleozoic sedimentation.
