Anotace
In spite of continuing stagnation in the telecommunication industry in general and in building new optical networks in particular, research in this area continues unabated. Archievements of COST 266 Action in research of advanced infrustructure for photonic networks is presented and further prospects in reasearch in this area is discussed in the paper. Progress in introducing advanced photonic technologies in communication networks is reviewed and the development trends are discussed.
