AnotaceThis study looks at the issue of bankruptcy on the one hand as it was defined in Bohemian legislation in the 16th century, and secondly as it was perceived within the then early modern urban society. It focuses its interest on situations in which certain Christian and Jewish merchants in Prague during the 16th century became insolvent and bankrupt. It investigates the question of to what extent these situations affected their personal/family life and what impact they had on their further economic activities and family life.
