    In this contribution we report on a study of chemically modified DNPs employing Grazing Angle Reflectance (GAR) FTIR and Kelvin Force Microscopy (KFM) measurements. Commercially available DNPs (average size 5 nm) were oxidized for 10 to 40 min in inductively coupled RF plasma or by annealing in air. The IR spectra clearly show that chemical modifications of DNPs lead to changes of functional groups. KFM measurements confirm the dependence of DNPs surface potential on their modification and they well correlate with GAR FTIR measurements. Furthermore, XRD, SEM and XPS measurements provide additional information about structural and phase composition changes of DNPs on the modification procedure. Our study confirms that reactivity of DNPs in air can be tailored by a proper treatment procedure.
