We found that insularity metrics explained large proportions in the variation of the average and diversity of persistence-related traits of edaphic island plant specialists. Insularity was positively related to abilities to persist locally (e.g. more extensive lateral spread) and at the same time, it was related to a reduced persistence trait variability. In general, the more insular systems showed stronger and more numerous trait-insularity relationships.
