Microalgae have attracted commercial interest for their potential to produce biomass containing some valuable bioactive compounds. Two basic approaches to microalgal mass production are presently used: large-area, open ponds, and closed vessels – photobioreactors. Microalgal biotechnology has shown a range of applications: from the traditional biomass production in human and animal nutrition (including aquaculture), technologies for bioremediation and biofuel production, products for the cosmetics, to the modern technology of small-scale precious production for medical and pharmaceutical products Pracoviště Mikrobiologický ústav Kontakt Eliška Spurná, eliska.spurna@biomed.cas.cz, Tel.: 241 062 231 Rok sběru 2009
