The experiments involved high-speed photography, electric probe diagnostics, fast photodiode recording of light fluctuations and emission spectroscopy of the anode region of the arc. Mechanisms determining position of the anode attachment, its movement, initiation of the restrike process as well as an effect of anode phenomena on plasma flow instability are discussed on the basis of experimental results.
