AnotaceEmissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in industrial gases represent a serious environmental problem. These pollutants can be removed from air applying the catalytic total oxidation to carbon dioxide and water as the final products, this process is markedly energy saving compared to the elimination of VOC by thermal combustion. Besides the rather expensive noble metals-containing catalysts, cheaper transition metal oxides are also used as catalysts in this process. Mixed oxides of transition metals can be easily obtained by calcination of copreciptated precursors such as layered double hydroxides (LDH). The LDH- related mixed oxide catalysts show fine dispersion of active components, large surface area, and good thermal stability. Moreover, combination of transition metal cations in such catalysts can be beneficial for their activity in VOC oxidation. Recently we observed enhanced catalytic performance of Со-Mn mixed oxides in ethanol deep oxidation compared to single Co and Mn ones, whereas activity of the Ni-Co oxides decreased with increasing Ni content in the catalysts. In order to investigate the activity of other types of oxides, we prepared the Ni-Mn and Ni-Co-Mn catalysts by heating of coprecipitated precursors and examined the effect of metal cations molar ratio in the catalysts on their physical chemical proper-ties and catalytic performance in the ethanol total oxidation.
