L’article aborde la question de savoir si le concept psychanalytique de l’inconscient est compatible avec la notion phénoménologique de conscience définie comme la conscience de soi. Ce problème est abordé en expliquant divers concepts que Merleau-Ponty a utilisés dans ses tentatives de réinterprétation de l’inconscient psychanalytique. D’abord, l’article se concentre sur la position de Merleau-Ponty dans la Phénoménologie de la perception, qui est spécifiée par les concepts de mauvaise foi, d’institution et de schéma corporel. Après cela, il est expliqué quelles sont les implications des conceptions tardives de Merleau-Ponty du symbolisme primordial et l’intersubjectivité incarnée pour le problème de l’inconscient et sa manifestation dans la conscience.

This paper addresses the question as to whether the psychoanalytic concept of the unconscious is compatible with the phenomenological notion of consciousness defined as self-awareness. This problem is approached by explicating various concepts that Merleau-Ponty used in his attempts at a reinterpretation of the psychoanalytic unconscious. At first, the paper focuses on Merleau- Ponty’s position in the Phenomenology of Perception, which is specified by the concepts of bad faith, institution and body schema. After that, it is explained what are the implications of Merleau-Ponty’s late conceptions of primordial symbolism and embodied intersubjectivity for the problem of the unconscious and its manifestation in the consciousness.
