Konference byla zaměřena především na obecná témata otázek strategie, metodiky a metod archeologického výzkumu ve specifickém prostředí žijících měst s dlouhodobým a tedy komplikovaným stratigrafickým vývojem, problematice stavu a perspektivám výzkumu dlouhodobě zkoumaných lokalit i mezioborové kooperaci. Zazněly i příspěvky zabývající se výpovědními možnostmi malých měst a drobné hmotné kultury. Konference byla věnována památce doc. Miroslava Richtera, DrSc., a PhDr. Ladislava Hrdličky, významných představitelů české moderní archeologie středověku, kteří se právě o rozvoj metodiky výzkumu a studia měst v ČR zasadili a od jejichž úmrtí uplynulo právě pět let.

The conference was focused mainly on general topics of the issues of strategy, methodology and methods of archaeological research in a specific environment of living towns with a long-term and thus complicated stratigraphic development, the problems of state and perspectives of the research at long-term researched sites, and interdisciplinary cooperation. The contributions dealing with information possibilities of small towns and material culture were also presented. The conference was dedicated to the memory of doc. Miroslav Richter, DrSc., and PhDr. Ladislav Hrdlička, the leaders of Czech modern medieval archaeology, who have contributed to the development of research methodology and urban research in the Czech Republic and who have passed five years ago.
