The iron aluminides with an increased content of silicon and carbon are used for structural purposes in the cast state. A special method of hot rolling of laboratory castings from the alloy Fe – 29.5 Al – 0.47 Si – 1.16 C (wt. %) was developed, preventing the origin of surface cracks in contact with the cold work rolls and enabling forming this material with the extremely low plasticity. The structure after the multi-pass hot rolling is characterized by grains stretched in the direction of rolling. The long-term annealing at temperature 1200 °C led to the coarsening of the finest grains, but the structure remains characterized with elongated grains. It seems the recrystallization behaviour of the investigated material is anomalous with regard to the quantity of the present carbides and their anisotropic shape. The present aluminium carbides Al4C3 limit the static recrystallization through the annihilation of the dislocations on their interfaces with matrix.
