The subject of the work was to study the effect of substances contained in Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum) and Himalayan balsam (Impatients glandulifera) on the buckwheat seedlings using toxicity tests and to monitor the profile of the selected phenolic compounds. Germination tests were performed with the stem extracts of both invasive plants into which buckwheat germinated; lengths of roots and hypocotyls of both plants were measured. The profile of selected phenolic compounds in the overground parts of buckwheat after exposure to the ex-tracts from the invasive plants mentioned above was studied using liquid chromatography.
