Electrocoagulation (EC) is a very promising technique for treatment of the industrially polluted waters. This work describes removal of ferric ions from waters by EC using mild steel electrodes. The influence of ferric ion concentration, pH of reaction solution, current density (dosing rate) and method of dosing has been evaluated. Electrocoagulation process was performed continuously with initial Fe concentrations in the range 25-200 mg/l at various pH values. After EC treatment a post mixing stage was found as benefit for iron removal. The pH values above 4.5 and the dosing rate/iron pollution concentration ratio between 1 to 2 reveal the highest degree of iron removal. The maximum efficiency of iron removal varied between 95–100 % at a neutral pH.
