The 3D LBM based simulation is developed to study hydrodynamic processes characterized by high Reynolds numbers. Specifically, particle-fluid interaction is examined for various configurations, e.g., for particles transported by water flow in an open channel or closed conduit or for particle gravitational settling in still water. Tested particles are represented by spherical non-deformable balls and the processes take place in cylindrical or rectangular (horizontal or vertical) profiles with smooth or rough walls (made of spherical particles or cylindrical rods) depending on the examined phenomena. The simulation uses the entropic extension of the LBM to cope with high Reynolds number regimes as it guarantees unconditional stability and it can be adjusted in such a way as to achieve accuracy of the second order.
