The extreme precipitation of July 1997 caused extensive activation of slope movements ů mainly landslides. Slope movements had locally catastrophic extent and caused considerable financial lost and abundant alterations of natural environment. The situation was a stimulus for geomorphological and biogeographical investigations, which were intended to explain the role of slope movements in the process of spatial differentiation and development of landscape. We focused our work on the central part of Hostýn-Vsetín mountain land, where slope movements (especially landslides) represent natural disturbance agent with strong impact on conditions and development of biota, especially vegetation. The research method included evaluation of vegetation cover ů actual as well as reconstructed potential vegetation ů at the twenty sample landslides. Landslides for study were selected from variety of size classes and were located in the rugged agricultural-forest and forest landscapes. The research was supplemented with the geomorphological evaluation of the studied sites.
