The editors intended to collect, on the occasion of the forthcoming 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Prague Linguistic Circle (1926) and the 90th anniversary of the journal Slovo a slovesnost (1935), a set of studies that critically analyse and reflect on the development, state and form of Czech Structuralism. The study has two parts. The first part defines the notion of Czech Structuralism and outlines its historical development, which is inseparably connected with the Prague Linguistic Circle or the Prague School. The contribution of Czech Structuralism to linguistics and literary criticism is also briefly summarised. The second part presents the studies that were included in both thematic issues of Slovo a slovesnost.
