A cooling channel design based on porous copper material is proposed for high heat flux cooling of the first wall in tokamaks. The porous copper structure is examined by optical and electron microscopy, material analysis provides input values for empirical equations defining the pressure drop properties of the porous zone. The properties of the porous zone are applied to the simulation of ANSYS Fluent 2023 Release 1. The experimental samples of the porous copper channel and the plain channel are manufactured. A series of experimental measurements are conducted to compare both samples and to verify the results of numerical simulations. Critical heat flux is significantly increased in the case of a porous channel design.
