AnotaceResults from a 24-hour time-lapse IR camera monitoring experimental study performed on a rock mass in the city of Prague are presented. The thermal images were processed and analysed. Acquired temperatures were coupled with information from crack meters monitoring of an unstable block. It has been shown that it is feasible to directly observe the thermoelastic wave on the monitored block. Correlations of movements with monitored temperatures showed that the rock surface temperature is not the only variable that influences thermally-induced movements. The movements are probably controlled more by the overall air/rock mass temperature rather than maximum and minimum peaks. However, for better understanding of this phenomena, we suggest monitoring for a longer period including measurement of temperatures inside the rock mass.
