The workshop will introduce principles of effective academic writing in English. It will begin with an overview of the key characteristics of Anglo-American academic writing and how these differ from typical European writing. Participants will then engage in hands-on activities and learn how to create a logically structured abstract, how to word a title for maximum effect and how to build up a coherent argument right from the start. In the afternoon, the work will focus on common linguistic weaknesses in academic writing, teaching participants how to create clearer and more concise written texts. The workshop will end with a feedback session on selected participants’ abstracts, bringing together all topics covered during the day and offering the participants advice relevant to their own writing.
By putting into practice the techniques from this workshop, participants will be able to write in a more reader-friendly style, appropriate for publications for an international audience.
