The plasma torch, originally working with the steam as a plasma gas, was modified to enable supply of various gases. The plasma jet generated by the torch operated with the mixture of nitrogen and small addition of hydrogen is studied in this work. Small amount of hydrogen in the plasma gives possibility to study the emission spectrum of Hβ line, which allows determination of the electron number density. The same spectral window near Hβ contains lines of nitrogen ions, which are used to evaluate excitation temperature. To simplify experiment we use the rotating copper disc as an anode, instead of real cutting configuration. Spectroscopic measurement describes the shock wave structure of the jet by means of the images of intensity of spectral lines together with axial profiles of electron number density and temperature.
