Resulting coatings and free-standing bodies were investigated in as-sprayed state by various techniques. Starting powders were conventionally fused and crushed as well as based on agglomerated nanoparticles. The coatings were thermally post-treated in a furnace and the products of post-treatment were studied too. Microstucture was studied by light microscopy, laser confocal microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Mechanical properties as microhardness, friction coefficient, wear resistance and surface roughness were evaluated. Microhardness of various states of titania was shown to be strongly dependant on the used load. Special attention is paid to the topic of nonstoichiometry of as-sprayed titania.
