This probe, the so-called segmented tunnel probe (STP), has recently been built and successfully tested in the CASTOR tokamak. The numerical simulations, performed with the XOOPIC code, are used for calibration of the probe and interpretation of the experimental data. It is shown that the STP is able to measure the ion temperature in the SOL. Preliminary radial profiles of the ion temperature in the CASTOR tokamak, based on calibrations obtained from Particle-in-Cell simulations, are presented. In addition, consideration is given to optimizing the probe performance by means of PIC simulations.
