Production parametres and uptake and allocation of mineral ions (Ca, Mg, Mn, K, Fe, Cu, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn) were studied. The productivity of the stand on the wet sampling site was found to correspond with those similar stands growing in non-toxic habitats. The sparse stand of reed in the dry site was formed by small sterile plants. Heavy metal ions concentrated in underground organs, while biogenic elements were cosiderably allocated to leaves and stems.
