Cancer is a major public health problem worldwide and is the second leading cause of death in the world. In recent years, there has been an unprecedented expansion in the field of nanomedicine with the development of new nanoparticles for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Yet, we still possess incomplete understanding of nano–bio interactions on ellular and molecular.levels. Such gap in the knowledge creates hurdles for clinical translation and commercialization of nanomedicines. Here we demonstrate that amino-functionalized polystyrene nanoparticles trigger cell death in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
