Tento článek se snaží mapovat kořeny spolupráce indonéských politických elit se světem zločinu od dob
This article sets out to map the roots of cooperation between the Indonesian ruling elites and the criminal world from the Middle Ages until the 20th century, with a particular focus on the ambivalent opportunist figures within Javanese society, known as the jago. These individuals were also able to play a positive role in certain situations, such as by leading rebellions against domestic or colonial oppressors or by providing protection to common peasants in their struggle against bandits. At the same time, these characters frequently served as bailiffs and spies/ intelligence agents for the ruling aristocracy and/or blackmailed and otherwise terrorized the villagers. Such patterns of mutual collaboration across the social strata took deep root in Indonesian, and, in particular, Javanese society, and have gradually become a model for later paradigms of widespread patron-client ties between Indonesian politicians and generals on the one hand, and the criminal world on the other.
