Presence of ribotypes of Archaea, Bacteria and Fungi were studied in soil samples taken at 13 localities in the Czech Republic and Norway in a terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism-based metagenomic approach. The data (intensities of terminal restriction fragments) were processed by distance-based redundancy analysis, correlating the abundances of ribotypes with soil concentration of AOX, other soil parameters including inorganic chloride concentration being taken as covariables. The only significant correlation of soil organically bound chlorine was observed for fungi, indicating that this microbial group is connected with metabolism of organically bound chlorine in forest soils
