The paper deals with the application of a fluidized layer of granular material (FLGM) for the direct separation of impurities in drinking water treatment. Further, it investigates the effect of operation parameters (grain size, arrangement, velocity gradient, dose of destabilisation reagent and temperature) on the aggregation (α) and separation efficiency (φ) of FLGM. The highest φ was achieved, when the particles entered FLGM immediately after the dosing of the destabilisation reagent, when they had the lowest degree of aggregation. The maximal value of φ was reached at G~250 s-1 The highest value of φ(Al) was achieved at T=5 °C, but the effect of T on φ(TOC) was not very significant. The maximal separation efficiency reached the values φ(Al)=0.81 at the optimal dosage D(Al)=1.55 mg/L and φ(TOC)=0.31 at the dosage D(Al)=2.36 mg/L. The separation of impurities proceeded via their interception on the FLGM grains in a form of solid, water-free shell (ρ=2450 kg/m3).
