Práce je závěrečným výstupem grantového úkolu GA ČR č. 409/02/1159. Zabývá se problematikou literárního reprezentování dějin. V kontextu první velké krize historismu datovaného na přelom 19. a 20. století stopuje osudy tradičního historického románu a hledá povahu a zdroje inovací, jež do historických reprezentací vnesla literární moderna. Ukazuje, že program moderny nebyl zdaleka jen literární, ale že měl hlubší historiosofický rozměr. Hlavní jádro tvoří analýza provedená na českém pramenném materiálu, současně však práce nabízí i základní komparaci se situací ve dvou sousedních literaturách, německé a polské.

The monograph is a product of the research project Nr. 409/02/1159, financed by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. It deals with the issue of the literary representation of history within the context of the first great crisis of the historicism at the turn of the 19th century and traces the developments of traditional historical novel trying to find the nature and sources of its innovations that were introduced by the literary modernism. The author argues that the programme of the literary modernism was by no means only a literary phenomenon but it includes a deeper historiosophical dimension. The analysis of the Czech materials constitutes the core of the book which, however, offers general comparison with developments in the two "neighbouring" central European literatures: German and Polish.
