Die Keramik dienstet wahrscheinlich auch als Hauptmedium für die Kommunikation innerhalb des einzelnen Kulturganzen. In einigen Fällen ist die Aussagekraft der Verzierung bei Artefakten so eindeutig, dass ihre kommunikative Bedeutung nicht zu bezweifeln ist, manchmal ist die Kommunikationsrolle der Symbolik zumindest sehr wahrscheinlich, manchmal ist die symbolische Mitteilung aber so chiffriert, dass erst eine detaillierte Analyse diesen bei der Keramik auf den ersten Blick ganz dekorativen Aspekt erkennbar macht. Dazu kommt auch, dass ein und dasselbe Schema in dem einen Kulturmilieu die Rolle eines Symbols, in dem anderen nur noch die des Dekors erfüllen kann. Im Beitrag ist für weitere Überlegungen über Struktur, Funktion und Bedeutung der Verzierung in der Zeit der Urnenfelderkultur das Fundmaterial der mittelböhmischen Knovízer Kultur genutzt.

Ceramics was also a medium for communication inside particular cultural complexes. In some cases narrativity of decoration on the artefacts is so perspicuous, that we have no suspense about its communication role, elsewhere is communication role of the symbolisation very presumptive. But occasionally the symbolical announcement is so intricately encrypted, that only elaborate analysis clarifies this aspect in the decoration which is at first sight absolutely decorative. Archaeological finds of Knoviz Culture are utilized for the considerations about structure, function and signification of decoration in the Urnfield Culture Period.

Keramika byla rovněž médiem pro komunikaci uvnitř jednotlivých kulturních komplexů. V některých případech narativity zdobení artefaktů je tak zřetelné, že nemáme pochyb o jejich komunikační roli, jinde je tato komunikační role velmi pravděpodobná. Občas je ale symbolika tak složitě zašifrována, že pouze propracovanými analýzami lze objasnit jejich aspekt ve zdobení, které je na první pohled zcela dekorativní. Archeologické nálezy knovízské kultury jsou použity k úvaze o struktuře, funkci a významu zdobení v období kultury popelnicových polí.
