Cílem eseje je popsat proměnu, kterou česká literatura prošla od listopadu 1989 do současnosti. Její první část tuto proměnu nahlíží z historické perspektivy: definuje, jak se na transformaci literatury podílí přechod od komunistického pojetí socialismu, tj. od ideologicky oktrojované společnosti a kultury k současnosti, jež je dána vizi svobodné ekonomiky a trhu idejí. Smyslem je porovnat fungování české literatury ve dvou odlišných politických a ekonomických systémech, jež jí přisuzují odlišnou společenskou roli, ale také vytvářejí odlišné materiální a komunikační podmínky pro tvorbu a četbu – a tedy i pro úspěch odlišných literárních poetik. Druhá část pak obrací pozornost ke globálnější proměně komunikačních procesů tak, jak ji přinesl přechod od „papírové“ kultury k digitální. Snaží se zachytit zásadní posun recepčních schopností a preferencí potenciálních adresátů a z nich plynoucích snah tvůrců, stejně jako proměnu společensky preferovaných literárních forem a tvarů.

The purpose of the essay is to describe the transformation that Czech literature has undergone from November 1989 to the present. The first part of the essay seeks to describe this transformation from a historical perspective: it defines how the transition from the communist notion of socialism, i.e. from an ideologically octroi society and culture to a present based on the vision of a free economy and market of ideas, is involved in this literature. Thus, it compares the functioning of Czech literature in two different political and economic systems, which not only dictated and continue to dictate a different social role for it, but also create different material and communicative conditions for its emergence, social functioning, and readership – hence for the success of a different poetics. Part Two then turns the attention to the more global transformation of the communication processes as brought about by the transition from a „paper“ culture to a digital one. It thus seeks to capture the fundamental transformation of the receptive abilities and preferences of potential addressees and the creators’ resulting efforts, as well as the transformation of socially preferred poetics.
