The article presents the basic thesis of the forthcoming book The Culture of Neural Networks: Synthetic Literature and Art (Not Only) in the Czech and Slovak Context. The development of artificial intelligence is set in a broad historical context formed by the development of technological imagination. In doing so, the central concept of „artificial intelligence“ is criticized and de facto rejected for its metaphorical and menipulative nature. The main part of the article consists in defining three phases of the process of establishing artificial neural networks in culture: 1. the verification phase, 2. the artistic-subversive phase, 3. the vernacular phase. The authors identify the two main consequences of the influence of artificial neural networks on literature as a leap in the process of democratization, or vernacularization of literature, and the intensification of self-reflection of literature as a mode of communication.
