Předkládaná kniha přináší soubor studií, vycházejících z přednáškového cyklu Literárního fóra Ústavu pro českou literaturu Akademie věd ČR, věnovaného německé kultuře (a literatuře) v protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Svazek je rozdělen do dvou částí, první je obecnější, kontextualizační a druhá sdružuje případové studie ke konkrétním autorům/tématům.
Přehledovou část otevírá překlad studie Petera Bechera z Handbuch der deutschen Literatur Prags und der Böhmischen Länder (2017, Kompendium německé literatury v českých zemích) „Literatura a literární politika v protektorátu“, následován náhledem do problematiky německojazyčného exilu od Jana Budňáka. Takto získaný literárněhistorický přehled následně doplňují dva vhledy do struktury fungování protektorátu, a sice „Literatura a politika. Institucionalizace a ideologizace kultury a literatury v protektorátu“ od Steffena Höhne a „Řízení českých médií v období protektorátu“ od Jana Cebe. Jeho příspěvek dokládá všeprostupující kontrolní mechanismy dosahující daleko do fungování společnosti. Přehledovou část uzavírá studie o německojazyčných nakladatelstvích ve chvíli zřízení protektorátu od Murray G. Halla.
Část věnovanou dílčím tématům otevírá studie jedné Lucie Antošíkové, přibližující na publikovaných dílech vztah německojazyčných autorů k české vlasti, především Praze. Na ni navazuje text Petera Bechera analyzující díla obou jazyků, která Prahu v dobách okupace tematizují. Vztahu k domovině, tentokrát z perspektivy konkrétního autora se ve své studii věnuje i Václav Maidl, když přibližuje dílo mnohostranného Hanse Watzlika a jeho místo v protektorátním kulturním životě. Svazek uzavírá Marie Brunová s příspěvkem věnovaným jihlavskému rodákovi Karl Hansi Stroblovi. Kniha je vybavena rejstříkem a obrazovou přílohou, terminologický rámec dal svazku překlad klíčového díla Volkera Mohna Nacistická kulturní politika v protektorátu: koncepce praxe a reakce české strany (2018) z pera Petra Dvořáčka.

The presented book contains a set of papers that are based on the lectures dedicated to the German culture (and literature) of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, that took place in the framework of the Literary Forum organized by the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The volume is divided into two parts: the first part is more general and contextualizing while the second one contains the case studies dedicated to particular topics or writers. The first part of the book begins with the paper „Literature and Literary Policy in the Protectorate“ by Peter Becher translated from Handbuch der Deutschen Literatur Prags und der Böhmischen Länder (2017). It is followed by an insight into the issue of German-language exile by Jan Budňák, who deals with the relation of Czech Germans to the occupied homeland in the works of Ludwig Winder, F. C. Weiskopf and Rudolf Fuchs.
This broader literary-historical overview is then complemented by two papers dealing with the institutional framework of the literature: „Literature and Politics. Institutionalization and Ideologization of Culture and Literature in the Protectorate“ by Steffen Höhne and „Management of the Czech Media during the Protectorate“ by Jan Cebe. His contribution demonstrates the pervasive nature of control mechanisms that reach deep into the fabric of society.
The part dedicated to case studies starts with the paper by Lucie Antošíková, where she focuses on the relationship of German-speaking authors to the Czech homeland, especially Prague, based on their works. It is followed by an analysis of works that depict Prague in the time of the protectorate in both languages by Peter Becher. Václav Maidl in his paper also deals with relation to the homeland, this time from the perspective of the single writer: he focuses on the work of multifaceted Hans Watzlik and his place in protectorate cultural life. The book concludes with the paper by Marie Brunová dedicated to an author from Jihlava –Karl Hans Strobl. The book is equipped with an index and a pictorial appendix. The terminological framework is based on the translation of Volker Mohn's key work Nazi Cultural Policy in the Protectorate: The Concept of Practice and the Reaction of the Czech Party (2018) by Petr Dvořáček.
