Studie ukazuje vývoj žánru passio v pozdně středověké latinské a české hagiografii. K definování žánru a analyse vlivů jiných žánrů je třeba začít jeho podobou v antické literature. Pro demonstraci vliv světské literatury byla vybrána tematická skupina svatých panen-mučednic. Předpokládaný latinský originál (byl-li nalezen či vypátrán) je srovnáván s verzí passio ve Zlaté legendě a ve staročeském Passionálu. Komparativní analýza prokázala tendenci k zesílení narativity a k zábavné funkci. Na vývoj měla vliv také feminizace svatosti a změny v sociálním statusu ženy během středověku.

The study shows the evolution of the passio genre in late medieval Latin and Czech hagiography. To define the genre and recognize the influences of other genres, it is essential to begin with the origin of the genre and follow it over different stages. To demonstrate the influence of secular literature, the thematic group of virgin-martyrs is chosen. The presumed origin (if has been found) is compared with its version in Legenda aurea and old Czech Passional. Comparative analysis shows a trend towards stronger narrativity and the entertainment function. Three primary genres influenced passio: apostolic novel (Apostelroman), magic novel (Zauberroman), and romance, which gave rise to hagiographic romance. The influence of the feminization of sanctity and the transformation of the women social status is distinguishable.
