Recenze se zaměřuje na africké myšlení v současném multilaterálním světě, především na problematiku tzv. „afropolitismu“ či afrického kosmopolitismu, na eticky orientovaný konceptu ubuntu („humanity“ či „lidskosti vůči ostatním“), dále na otázku vztahu Afričanů ke světu v souvislosti s regionálními interakcemi nebo se dotýká významu africké filosofie v nefiktivní próze, tak jako ambivalentnosti spojené s používáním angličtiny napříč africkým kontinentem. V druhé části recenze autor naznačuje některé potenciální spojitosti konceptu ubuntu s etiopskou racionalistickou filosofií, kterou v 17. století rozvíjeli Zera Jakob a Wolde Hijwot.

The review focuses on African thought in the contemporary multilateral world, particularly on the issue of so-called “Afropolitanism” or African cosmopolitanism, the ethically oriented concept of ubuntu (“humanity” or “humanity to others”), the question of Africans’ relationship to the world in the context of regional interactions, or touches on the significance of African philosophy in non-fiction prose, as well as the ambivalence associated with the use of English across the African continent. In the second part of the review, the author suggests some potential connections between the concept of ubuntu and the Ethiopian rationalist philosophy developed by Zera Jakob and Wolde Hijwot in the seventeenth century.
