The article is a brief biography of the geographer Jiří Král (1893–1975), a professor at the universities in Bratislava and Prague, and especially at the end of his life a very peculiar personality of Czech science. The text is based on original archival research (personal fund of J.K. at the Masaryk Institute – Archive of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v. v. i.).
