    The Z-element related structural and physical properties of the Co2FeZ Heusler alloys prepared by arc melting were subjected to detail bulk and surface studies. The several experimental methods as scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, positron annihilation, Mössbauer spectroscopy, completed by magnetic and hardness measurements were applied. The main attention was devoted to differences in all possible properties as morphology, defects, micro- and macro-magnetic behaviour and microhardness depending upon a choice of Si, Al, or Si + Al as the Z element. The best structural homogeneity, smallest grain size, and no grain boundary segregation were observed at Co2FeSi0.5Al0.5, while about ten-times larger grains were obtained at Co2FeSi, the grain boundaries of which were covered by a thin interfacial phase, and at Co2FeAl with formation of dendritic structure. Nearly all physical parameters obtained for the Co2FeSi0.5Al0.5 alloy were found to be influenced by either Si or Al.
