Metal contamination of soils is one of phenomena which have negative impacts on human health. There is an urgent need for effective strategies which could eliminate heavy metal pollution. It has now become obvious that leaching with suitable biodegradable agents can not only effectively leach heavy metals from soils but also recover them when needed. A hydrolysate obtained by thermal pressure hydrolysis of animal wastes (poultry feathers and poultry skeletal remains, under the action of malic acid) was applied as a chelating agent for leaching of heavy metals from industrial soils contaminated with heavy metals after years of metallurgical and coking activities.
