Kniha z pera francouzského historika Pierra Brouého detailně mapuje politické dějiny Ruska od roku 1905 do období Nikity Chruščova. Hlavní těžiště knihy spočívá v rozboru 20. a 30. let. Analyzuje tehdejší společenskou situaci v Rusku a podrobně mapuje politické debaty a politická stanoviska tehdejších aktérů, zejména Trockého, Stalina, Bucharina, Kameněva, Zinověva, Preobraženského a celé řady dalších. Kniha rozebírá příčiny, které vedly k postupné genezi stalinismu v SSSR, a mapuje jeho důsledky.

This book, written by the French historian Pierre Broué, provides a detailed account of Russia’s political history from 1905 to the period of Nikita Khrushchev. The main burden of the book lies in the analysis of the 1920s and 1930s. He analyses the social situation in Russia at the time and gives a detailed account of the political debates and political positions of the actors of the time, notably Trotsky, Stalin, Bukharin, Kamenev, Zinoviev, Preobrazhensky and a number others. The book discusses the causes that led to the gradual genesis of Stalinism in the USSR and explores its consequences.
