Vladimír Panoš (1922 –2002), plukovník letectva a docent fyzické geografie, byl vlivným fyzickým geografem, karsologem a speleologickým diplomatem. Věnoval se především krasovým územím severní a střední Moravy (např. Mladeč, Javoříčko, Moravský kras) a relativně dlouhou dobu krasu Kuby.

Vladimír Panoš (July 2, 1922 – January 7, 2002), colonel of air forces, associated professor of physical geography, was influential karst scientist and speleological diplomat. His studies concentrated especially on dispersed karst in the central and northern Moravia and on the Moravian Karst. He described hydrology and hydrogeology of small karst regions in northern Moravia (1960–1962) and principal karst aquifer in Mladeč and Javoříčko karsts (Třesín Aquifer, 1961 to 2001). He defined the evolution of cave levels and marginal poljes in the Moravian Karst, model in principles has been stil valid (1963, 1964, 1970). Based on the extensive campaign of geological and geomorphological mapping in early sixties, he formulated so-called Central European Type of Karst, extensive polycyclic and polygenetic karst landscape (1962, 1964) where he established new discipline in karstology, paleokarstology. In mid-sixties of the 20th century he studied Cuban tropical karsts and their environmental problems. Cuban expeditions and expertises (1964–1965, 1967 and 1979–1980) resulted in the model of development of tropical karsts and the general statement that the climate is only one of factors influencing karst type, but not the only (1968). He interested in comparison of Hranice and Budapest hydrothermal karsts (1961). Later his interests changed to speleotherapy, its principles and application, especially with the respect of children, obtaining one of the first EU projects within PHARE program in the past Czechoslovakia (1992–1994). Vladimír Panoš was known by the organization skill, which he proved several times in his life. First, during the IInd World War and at its end. Next time, when he served as chief of company named Northern Moravian Karst, responsible for management of caves in northern Moravia and later in the Moravian Karst. He entered the World karstology and speleology scene in 1964 when he was one of principal co-organizers of the International Karst Symposium in Brno. In 1965, as a member of the Czechoslovak delegation at the 4th International Congress of Speleology in Ljubljana (past Yugoslavia) substantially contributed to the foundation of international non-governmental organisation of the International Union of Speleology (Union Internationale de Spéléologie, UIS), where he served several periods in position of Vicepresident and Adjunct Secretary. In 1973 he was principal organizer of the 6th International Congress of Speleology in Olomouc with attendance of more than 1,000 participants. On the national scene, Vladimír Panoš pushed the unification of the Czech and Moravian caving from individual and independent caving clubs into one society – the Czech Speleological Society was established on December 12, 1978 and Vladimír Panoš was elected its President. Vladimír Panoš was awarded by numbers of awards, medals and honorary memberships for his scientific achievements and number of medals for his military services.ns.
