    The main advantage of quasistatic solution to the seismic response of structures is its simplicity and its compability with a standard static solution. That is why this approach has been used in most seismic building codes up to the end of fifties. Later on, when the requirements of high-rise building structures even in seismic zones have become even more urgent, the dynamic character of seismic loading had to be respected. This was done in some cases in such a way, that the main advantage, namely the avoiding of dynamic solution of the structure, had been lost, but the inacuracy of static solution had mostly remained. Using such a method one had to calculate at first the natural vibration of the structure in order to determine the equivalent seismic forces and only then to take advantage of the simplicity of statical solution itself. It is truth, this approach can be accurate, too, but mostly it was introduced above all to rid the civil engineers of the feared dynamic calculation. I belive, this last reason is no more justifiable, but it is newertheless useful to remind the real meaning of this method of calculation, in order to have knowledge of its possibilities, limitations or further simplifications.
