Topology optimization is a widely used technique that helps engineers design device components in a highly-specialized and application-driven way. In the present work, we propose a methodology for topology optimization of device components that are in contact with flowing fluid. In particular, the methodology is based on a connection of multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs), CFD and hybrid fictitious domain-immersed boundary method (HFDIB), recently presented in [1]. The usage of HFDIB increases the CFD model evaluation speed and the framework robustness and generality. The methodology capabilities are illustrated on a proof-of-concept problem of a diffuser shape optimization, the goal of which was to increase the diffuser energy efficiency. This particular problem has been chosen, since we have already conducted a similar optimization using a less general optimization methodology. The older methodology was validated via experiment and served as a reference to test the newly prepared framework.
