Cerium-doped aluminates with a perovskite structure are studied for their prospective material properties aiming at their application in scintillation detectors. These materials exhibit high density, and thermal and chemical stability and thanks to the allowed 5d-4f transition of Ce3+ also high scintillation emission intensity and fast decay can be obtained. Commercially successful perovskite scintillator is the cerium-doped yttrium aluminium perovskite (YAlO3:Ce) produced in single crystal form by the Czochralski method. To overcome its disadvantage of low density and effective atomic number the single crystal of gadolinium aluminium perovskite doped with cerium (GdAlO3:Ce) was studied, but has shown significantly lower light. This work pursues a new approach to improve the scintillation properties of this material. Ceramic pellets of gadolinium aluminium perovskite doped with cerium and admixed with lanthanum ((Gd,La)AlO3:Ce) were prepared using co-precipitation method.
