Der Beitrag stellt in gebotener Kürze das Forschungsprojekt des Kunsthistorischen Instituts der CAS vor, welches die Geschichte des Heimischwerdens des Gattung Operette bis 1945 erzählt. Es behandelt die Faktoren Folklorisierung, Verbürgerlichung und daneben auch die Marginalisierung ihrer Vertreter. Dies wird anhand von Beispielen der Komponisten Jára Beneš, Jaromír Weinberger und vor allem Karel Weis gezeigt. Nachdem er mit der Oper Der polnische Jude (1901) nationalistische Kritik auf sich gezogen hatte, legte Weis mit seiner Operette Der Revisor (1907) „den Grundstein der tschechischen Operettenliteratur“ (M. Šulc).

The paper briefly presents a research project at the Institute of Art History of the CAS that tells the story of the ‘domestication’ of the operetta genre before 1945. It deals with the factors of folkorization, the Bürgertum (or middle-class) and especially the marginalization of operetta artists. This is shown by the examples of composers Jára Beneš, Jaromír Weinberger, and especially Karel Weis. After having drawn nationalst criticism with his opera The Polish Jew (1901), Weis ‘‘led the foundation stone of the Czech operetta repertoire’’ (M. Šulc) with his operetta The Government Inspector (1907).
