V čem spočívá idea reprezentace, která leží v základech každého moderního demokratického systému? Tato otázka je pochopitelně širší, nás zde však zajímá ve vztahu k politickým stranám a v tomto ohledu ji lze položit přesněji například takto: Co znamená, když řekneme, že politické strany a jejich poslanci „reprezentují” či „zastupují” své voliče? Je to pouhý popis skutečnosti? Nebo jde o ideál, a můžeme tak za jistých okolností říci, že ta či ona politická strana své voliče a jejich zájmy nezastupuje či nereprezentuje, ačkoli byla legitimně zvolena, případně že je nereprezentuje dobře? A v čem ona dobrá reprezentace spočívá? Inspirován slavnou knihou německo-americké politické teoretičky Hanny F. Pitkinové The Concept of Representation (Pojem reprezentace), která ovšem mluví o reprezentaci obecně, se pokusím na tyto otázky stručně odpovědět.

What is the idea of representation that lies at the heart of every modern democratic system? This question is of course broader, but we are interested here in relation to political parties, and in this respect it can be put more precisely, for example, as follows: What does it mean to say that political parties and their members “represent” or “represent” their constituents? Is this merely a description of reality? Or is it an ideal, and we can thus consider certain circumstances, we can say that this or that political party does not represent its voters and their interests or does not represent them, even though it was legitimately elected, or that it does not represent them well? And what does good representation consist of? Inspired by the famous book by the German-American political theorist Hanna F. Pitkin The Concept of Representation, which of course talks about representation in general, I will try to answer these questions briefly.
