Článek shrnuje události v Indonésii z noci na 1. října 1965, kdy bylo v Jakartě levicovými povstalci zavražděno šest pravicových generálů, a následný násilný vývoj v podobě celonárodního masakru komunistů a jejich sympatizantů. Jejím hlavním cílem je poskytnout přehled různých a často protichůdných historických interpretací. Text přitom klade zvláštní důraz na interpretaci tohoto historického mezníku režimem Orde Baru (Nový řád), který ukončil předchozí vládu prezidenta Sukarna a vyšel z dramatu těchto událostí jako jasný vítěz a vládl Indonésii autoritářským způsobem až do roku 1998. Z této pozice pak režim logicky určil, jakým způsobem bude o krveprolití informovat v učebnicích a ve veřejném prostoru - formou naprosté dehonestace komunistů, na jejichž údajné vině a „obraně národa“ před nebezpečím komunismu Nový řád založil svou legitimitu.

The article provides a summary of the events in Indonesia on the night of October 1, 1965, when six right-wing generals were assassinated in Jakarta by leftist rebels, and the subsequent violent developments in the form of a nationwide massacre of communists and their sympathizers. Its main aim is to provide an overview of the various and often contradictory historical interpretations. In doing so, the text places special emphasis on the interpretation of this historical milestone by the Orde Baru (New Order) regime, which ended the previous rule of President Sukarno and emerged from the drama of these events as a clear winner, ruling Indonesia in an authoritarian manner until 1998. From this position, the regime then logically determined how the bloodshed would be reported in textbooks and public space – in the form of utterly dehumanizing the communists, on whose alleged guilt and the “defense of the nation” against the dangers of communism the New Order based its legitimacy.
