In recent decades, the number of studies on carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere has increased due to their adverse effects on human health, atmospheric visibility, and the climate forcing (Mauderly and Chow, 2008, Bond et al., 2013). Despite the increasing interest, there is a distinct lack of studies on the vertical distribution of atmospheric carbonaceous aerosols based on continuous in-situ measurements (Yin et al. 2020, Zhao et al. 2019), especially in Central Europe. In this study we attempt to contribute to filling this gap. The variability and sources of vertically distributed carbonaceous aerosols were characterized in the near-surface layer based
