Finora numerosi documenti inediti dell'Archivio di Stato di Firenze hanno gettato nuova luce sulla collezione d'arte rudolfina, tra la sua funzione pubblica e l'uso privato. Costantino de' Servi, architetto, scenografo e informatore dei Medici alla corte di Rodolfo II, e l'epistolario dei diplomatici fiorentini offrono una visione approfondita e interessante delle arti e dell'architettura, della malinconia e dei disturbi mentali dell'imperatore Rodolfo II.

Thus far, numerous unpublished documents from the State Archives of Florence have cast new light on the Rudolfine art collection, between its public function and the private use. Costantino de’ Servi, an architect, set designer, and Medici informant at the court of Rudolph II, and the Florentine diplomats’ letters offer indepth and interesting insight in the matters of arts and architecture, melancholy, and the mental disturbances of Emperor Rudolf II.
