The paper discusses the role of the art (workshop) collections in the artistic practice of central European artists in the 18th century. Particular case studies are the artistic practice of artists Franz Xaver Wagenschön, Franz Anton Maulbertsch and Josef Winterhalder Jr. In that matter, special attention is given to the creative modification of individual visual sources into new artworks as an example of artistic ambitions and competitiveness.
