V tejto polemickej reakcii na knihu Axela Honnetha Idea socializmu predstavujem alternatívnu koncepciu základnej “idei” socializmu ako hnutia a myšlienkovej tendencie. Moja téza je, ak zakladajúce postavy socialistického hnutia neuznali autonómiu súkromnej sféry a politickej sféry, nejde o “chybu”, ako im to vyčíta Honneth, ale ide o kľúčový aspekt špecificky socialistickej koncepcie emancipácie, tj., že je potreba spochybniť rozdelenie medzi sférami, aby sa emancipácia mohla rozvinúť vo všetkých sférach.

In this polemical reaction to Axel Honneth’s book The Idea of Socialism, I present an alternative conception of socialism’s fundamental “idea”. My thesis is that if founding members of the socialist movement refused to accept the autonomy of the private and political spheres, this was not a “mistake”, as Honneth contends, but was a crucial feature of the specifically socialist notion of emancipation: that it is necessary to question the separation of spheres, so that emancipation can penetrate into all spheres.
