Studie přináší podrobný přehled recepce husovsko-husitské tematiky v hudbě tzv. rudých 50. let 20. století. V úvodu však autor věnuje také stručnou formou pozornost recepci v době meziválečné a v období Protektorátu Čechy a Morava, což přispívá k pochopení kontextu vývoje. Autor sleduje nejprve různé vlivy, podněty a zdroje přítomné ve společnosti a následně je dokladuje konkrétními skladbami. De facto tak navazuje na podobně koncipovanou studii Bohumíra Štědroně Česká hudba za nesvobody (1949). Letošní 600. výročí upálení husitského teologa Jana Želivského pak bylo podnětem k tomu, aby závěr studie vyplnilo stručné ohlédnutí za jeho operou Jan Želivský. Tato sonda výmluvně dokumentuje to, jak politické vlivy zasahovaly do hudebního života v socialistickém Československu.

The study provides a detailed overview of the reception of the Hus-Hussite theme in the music of the “red 1950s”. In the introduction, however, the author also briefly deals with the reception in the interwar period and during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, which contributes to understanding the context of the development. The author first traces the various influences, stimuli and sources present in society and then illustrates them with specific compositions. In doing so, he actually continues in Bohumír Štědron’s similarly conceived study Česká hudba za nesvobody (Czech Music in the Time of Oppression) from 1949. This year’s 600th anniversary of the burning of the Hussite theologist Jan Želivský prompted the conclusion of the study to include a brief look back at Miloš Vacek’s opera Jan Želivský. This probe clearly documents how political influences affected musical life in socialist Czechoslovakia.
